The Scandinavian cloak — the \u003cem\u003eskikkja\u003c\/em\u003e, the \u003cem\u003efeldr\u003c\/em\u003e — was not a cape closed at the front, but a large rectangle of wool thrown over the back and \u003cstrong\u003epinned on the right shoulder\u003c\/strong\u003e with a fibula. The reason has nothing to do with looks: the right arm, the weapon arm, had to stay completely free.
