In their poems, battle is called "the raven's feast" and the warrior "the one who feeds the raven"—these are kenningar, paraphrases that replace ordinary words. The bird thus became the measure of victory: the more ravens there were, the more deaths the poem recounted. The most direct compliment one could pay a chief was to say he had fed them well.

📖 To learn more: Discover our guide to Odin's ravens.

♦ Complete Your Viking Collection

Discover other items you might like:

White Viking Raven Wings Spread Tank Top

Viking Vegvísir and Gray Ravens Tank Top

White Viking Two Ravens and Valknut Tank Top

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0974/0569/8430/files/debardeur-viking-corbeau-vol-vegvisir-noir-ambiance.jpg?v=1787423874
