The image comes from the 19th century: costumes from Wagner's operas and Romantic illustrations imposed it within a few decades. The two Viksø helmets, discovered in Denmark in 1942 and redated in 2019 by analysis of the birch pitch they contained, date back to around 900 BCE. They belong to the Nordic Bronze Age, and their bronze horns designate them as ritual objects, not combat gear. Eighteen centuries passed between them and the first longship.

📖 To learn more: Discover our guide to Viking equipment.

♦ Complete Your Viking Collection

Discover other pieces you might like:

Golden One-Eyed Odin Viking Tank Top

Viking Tank Top Confronting Warriors and Mjölnir

Golden Vegvísir Viking Tank Top with Epaulets

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0974/0569/8430/files/debardeur-viking-guerrier-cornu-rouge-or-ambiance.jpg?v=1787423884
