A truly ancient symbol, for once
Many "Viking symbols" sold today come from 19th-century Icelandic grimoires. The Valknut is an exception: it appears on the Hammars stone in Gotland, on the Oseberg ship bed, and on the Tängelgårda stone—artifacts from the Viking Age, not late reconstructions. What archaeologists observe, they state: it always appears near scenes of death or figures associated with Odin. What they do not know, they do not invent—its precise meaning is not established. What does the Valknut mean?
Three interlocking triangles. It is found carved on the Hammars stone on Gotland and on the Oseberg ship, always near scenes linked to Odin and death. Its exact meaning is still debated — we will not pretend to know it.
Is the Valknut an attested symbol?
Yes, unlike the Vegvísir or the Ægishjálmur, which date from 19th-century Iceland. The Valknut does appear on stones and objects from the Viking Age.
