A Sword for a Handle

This is the heaviest piece in the range, and you can feel it: 900g empty. A dragon with wings spread wide is coiled on a field of black rocks, and the handle is a complete cruciform sword—blade, openwork crossguard, and a gem-set pommel, driven into the stone. The dragon's tail wraps around the blade. 500 ml, in blood red, gold, or midnight blue. Find it among our Viking mugs.

What Sets This Piece Apart

  • Double wall: an exterior shell made of sculpted resin and a removable food-grade stainless steel interior cup. Your drink only touches metal.
  • Openwork sword handle: the crossguard is pierced through. Your hand slips into the opening, and your thumb rests on the pommel.
  • Two gems: one on the pommel, one at the intersection of the crossguard, both faceted and in contrasting colors.
  • 900g empty: the heaviest weight in our range. It is as much a display piece as it is a container.
  • Hand-applied patina: the recesses remain dark, while the edges catch the light. No two pieces are ever exactly identical.

Did you know?

The cruciform sword on this handle refers to a very real practice in the Middle Ages: swearing by the hilt. The cross-shaped handle, formed by the crossguard and the blade, served as a portable crucifix, and some pommels were hollowed out to hold a relic. Swearing an oath on one's weapon was therefore not just a metaphor: it meant pledging one's word before God, using the very object that would ensure it was kept.
