Bare steel, without a single motif
Some tankards tell a story in their metal. This one tells none. A smooth polished wall, a curved handle attached at two points, a flared base that sits heavy in the hand: nothing else. It is a working object, made to be filled, emptied, rinsed, then filled again.
It comes in two capacities, 450 ml and 560 ml. The larger one falls eight milliliters short of the British imperial pint — capacities measured filled to the brim. If, on the contrary, you are looking for a sculpted piece, the Viking tankards and mugs collection is full of them. This one plays a different tune: the stripped-down banquet tankard, the one nobody has to keep an eye on.
What sets this piece apart
- Double wall: two layers of steel separated by an air gap. Your drink warms up more slowly and condensation stays very limited.
- 304 stainless steel: the grade used in professional kitchens, as stated by the manufacturer. It resists corrosion and does not hold on to odors from one evening to the next.
- No engraving: the surface is entirely smooth. No added resin, no relief to scrub, nothing that can flake off in the wash.
- Double-attached handle: the handle is fixed at both the top and the bottom of the body. It is made for a full tankard.
- Hassle-free care: the surface is entirely smooth, with no relief or added resin — a rinse in hot soapy water is enough. Hand washing recommended to protect the double wall.
Many tables mix both registers: this one for every day, an ornate piece for special occasions. The Viking Warrior Sword Tankard plays that second role, with its sculpted relief decoration.

Did you know?
In 2007, near Harrogate in Yorkshire, two amateur metal detectorists, David and Andrew Whelan, unearthed a Viking hoard buried around 927: 617 silver coins and dozens of pieces of jewelry and ingots, packed into a silver-gilt cup. The irony is that this cup — the finest piece in the hoard — is not Viking: it is a 9th-century Frankish liturgical vessel, probably taken from a monastery on the Continent. The Scandinavians knew a good metal vessel when they saw one: this one protected their fortune for nearly eleven centuries. The Vale of York Hoard is now shared between the British Museum and the Yorkshire Museum.

Does this tankard have engraved Viking designs?
No. The tankard is completely smooth, in polished steel, with no engraving, no runes and no added decoration. It is a plain banquet tankard, chosen for its sturdiness and easy care, not for its ornamentation. For a sculpted piece, take a look at our resin-and-steel tankards and chalices.
Is it really dishwasher-safe?
No. The manufacturer does not certify it for the dishwasher, and with a double wall, water can seep in between the two layers. To be safe, wash it by hand in hot soapy water: on a completely smooth surface, it takes thirty seconds.
450 or 560 ml: which size should I choose?
The 560 ml size is almost exactly a British imperial pint (568 ml): it holds a whole 50 cl (500 ml) bottle, head included. The 450 ml size is better suited to 33 cl (330 ml) cans, servings of mead and smaller hands, since the tankard stays lighter to lift when full.
Does the double wall keep drinks cold?
It clearly slows down warming and keeps condensation from beading on the outside, so your hand stays dry and does not warm up the contents. Note, however, that this is an air-gap double wall, not vacuum insulation like a thermos bottle. Expect your drink to stay nicely cool for one serving, not for a whole day.
Can I pour a hot drink into it or put it in the microwave?
A hot drink is no problem at all; the double wall even tempers the heat you feel on your fingers. The microwave, however, is out of the question: the tankard is entirely made of metal. To reheat a drink, do it in another container and then pour it back in.
