A Warrior Leaning on His Sword, at Eye Level

At the center of the body, a helmeted warrior in chain mail stands upright, both hands resting on the pommel of the sword planted in front of him. On either side, two knotwork panels frame the scene like the posts of a gateway. The wide, flat handle is engraved with runes and small round shields. All in antique silver, 450 ml. Find it among our Viking tankards.

What Sets This Piece Apart

  • Double wall: an outer shell of sculpted resin and a removable food-grade stainless steel inner liner. Your drink touches only metal.
  • Flat runic handle: wider than it is tall, it fills the whole hand and carries its own engraved decoration.
  • Triptych composition: the warrior in the center, the knotwork on the sides. The scene reads at a single glance.
  • Monochrome: no color to distract from the relief, only the dark wash in the recesses.

Complete the table with our Viking chalices or a natural yak drinking horn.

Did You Know?

The small shields engraved on the handle refer to a tactical reality: the skjaldborg, the shield wall. Viking Age shields were round and light, made of linden planks joined together and covered with leather, 80 to 90 cm in diameter. The Gokstad ship yielded sixty-four of them, lined up along the gunwales and painted alternately yellow and black. Arranged this way, they protected the rowers as much as they showed the ship's colors before landing.
