A Warrior's Face and a Foot with Blue Knotwork
A helmeted warrior fills the bowl: helm pulled down over the eyes, mustache and gray beard blending into the metal, two crossed axes on either side. The flared foot is decorated with blue knotwork on a gold background, the only touch of color on the piece. A Viking chalice that is more narrative than decorative. Find it in our collection of Viking chalices.
What Sets This Piece Apart
- Double wall: an outer shell of sculpted resin and a removable food-grade stainless steel inner liner. Your drink only touches the metal.
- Two registers: the cup stays understated and metallic, while the foot carries the color. The contrast draws the eye downward, which visually lengthens the silhouette.
- Three-dimensional beard: the strands are carved out one by one and fall in relief across the wall.
- Painted knotwork: the blue is applied in the recesses of the foot, while the gold stays on the ridges.
- Real weight in the hand: 442 g empty. A far cry from a costume-party cup.

Did you know?
The warriors of the North did not live by weapons alone: they also lived by verse. The skalds composed poetry of formidable complexity, built on kennings, those poetic circumlocutions in which the sea becomes “the whale road” and gold becomes “Freyja's tears.” The craft paid, and it could save a life: captured by his enemy Eric Bloodaxe at York, the Icelandic poet Egill Skallagrímsson composed in a single night a poem of praise remembered as Höfuðlausn, the “Head-Ransom.” He left a free man.

Dragon, skull or warrior: which design to choose?
| Design | What the cup shows | Who to give it to |
|---|---|---|
| Dragon | Body coiled around the stem, wings spread, set gem; from smooth low relief to full sculpture | The widest and most crowd-pleasing choice: fantasy fans, gamers, collectors |
| Skull and bones | Curled horns, membranous wings, stacked vertebrae, friezes of small skulls | For a dark decor you already embrace, and for autumn and Halloween tables |
| Warrior and helmet this product | Bearded face or nasal helm in high relief, crossed axes, knotwork at the foot | The most understated and most historical register: saga readers, fans of Viking series |
| Raven | Red-eyed bird perched on a skull, frieze of feathers and small bones | A targeted gift, for someone who recognizes Huginn and Muninn without being told their names |
| Goat and pentagram | Baphomet head inside a pentagram on a red background, frieze of skulls | An occult, non-Norse register, for those who embrace this imagery; 600 ml, a 500 ml bottle plus the head |
Is the blue on the base hand-painted?
The colored patina is applied by hand in the recesses of the knotwork, then wiped off the raised edges. Slight variations from one piece to another are normal.
Can you drink from it?
Yes. The inner liner is made of food-grade stainless steel and comes out completely for washing. The resin never comes into contact with the drink.
Is it a historical reproduction?
No, it is an inspired piece. No chalice of this type has ever been found in a Viking context: people drank from horns, wooden cups or glass beakers obtained through long-distance trade. The iconography here is modern.
What care does it need?
Wash the steel liner by hand in lukewarm water, and wipe the outside with a damp cloth. No dishwasher, no microwave, no scalding-hot drinks.
