Did You Know?
Horn tankards were prized by the Vikings for their sturdiness and practicality on long sea voyages. Unlike ceramic vessels, they did not break during storms. The ship's captain often owned a richly decorated tankard, a symbol of his rank. During víkingr (expeditions), sharing a tankard of beer among warriors sealed alliances and strengthened the brotherhood of the clan.

Which capacity to choose?
| Capacity | What it amounts to | When to choose it |
|---|---|---|
| 380 ml this product | A little more than a 330 ml can | A size under 400 ml: you can hold it for a long time without tiring your wrist, for a drink you savor rather than a round. |
| 450 ml | A 330 ml can plus a generous top-up | The compromise for heavily sculpted models: a whole beer, without the weight of a 600 ml tankard once full. |
| 500 ml | A 500 ml bottle, filled to the brim | The beer drinker's benchmark: a whole 500 ml bottle fits, but with no room for the head. |
| 600 ml | A 500 ml bottle, with the room the head needs | The size for long feasts: you pour once and don't get up again. Full, it takes a firm grip. |
| About 420 to 550 ml | Roughly a pint | Capacity given as a range: each piece differs slightly. Choose it if a piece that isn't calibrated doesn't bother you. |
What is the capacity?
About 380 ml. The capacity is measured filled to the brim: expect a little less in actual use to avoid spills.
What is it made of?
Polished natural ox horn. The part in contact with the drink is always the steel, never the outer material.
Is it dishwasher-safe?
No. Heat and harsh detergents damage the patina and can separate the outer material from the steel. Wash the inside by hand in lukewarm water and wipe the outside with a damp cloth.
Can I pour a hot drink into it?
No. Steel conducts heat and the outer material is not designed for high temperatures. Keep it for cold or room-temperature drinks.
