Did you know?
The prow of a longship, often carved into the shape of a dragon's head (the Dreki), did not only serve an aesthetic purpose. According to ancient Norse beliefs, these carvings were intended to frighten the protective spirits (Landvættir) of the lands the Vikings were about to conquer. However, Viking law stipulated that the head had to be removed before returning to Scandinavian shores so as not to scare the spirits of their own country. Building this Viking decoration in your home symbolizes this protective and conquering power under the sovereign gaze of the All-Father.
