The Tree and the Two Birds
This Viking Yggdrasil t-shirt combines the silver world-tree, with its roots knotted in interlace patterns, with two white ravens flying from its branches toward the top of the chest. It is the only model in this category that unites Odin's two major symbols in a single composition. Find this model in our Viking t-shirts collection.
For the tree alone, rendered as an engraving under a moon, see the silver Yggdrasil.
What Sets This T-Shirt Apart
Bringing two strong symbols together on one chest requires giving them different roles.
- Ascending movement: the ravens are leaving the tree upwards: the design has a direction, which is rare for circular compositions.
- Two distinct values: the tree in silver-grey, the birds in stark white—the hierarchy is instantly readable.
- Interlace roots: the bottom of the tree is treated with Nordic knots rather than realistic roots, which anchors it in the Northern vocabulary.
- Cotton: a supple knit that allows the design to follow the body instead of standing stiff.
If you are more interested in the ravens than the tree, the raven in an ink circle gives them full prominence.
Choosing Your Size
The manufacturer does not provide a measurement chart for this model. Rather than leaving you without a reference, here is an estimated range, calculated from the two adult charts documented on other models in the category. These are orders of magnitude, not guaranteed measurements—we prefer to state this upfront.
| Size | Flat Width | Chest Circumference |
|---|---|---|
| S | 49 to 51 cm | 98 to 102 cm |
| M | 51 to 54 cm | 102 to 108 cm |
| L | 53 to 57 cm | 106 to 114 cm |
| XL | 55 to 60 cm | 110 to 120 cm |
| 2XL | 57 to 63 cm | 114 to 126 cm |
| 3XL | 59 to 66 cm | 118 to 132 cm |
| 4XL | 61 to 69 cm | 122 to 138 cm |
| 5XL | 63 to 72 cm | 126 to 144 cm |
| 6XL | 65 to 75 cm | 130 to 150 cm |
The range widens for larger sizes because the two known charts diverge starting from XL: one progresses by 4 cm per size, the other by 6.
The foolproof method: take a t-shirt you already own that fits you well. Lay it flat and measure from one armpit seam to the other. Enter this number in the Flat Width column: no calculations needed. This way, you are comparing garment to garment, without relying on a theoretical size—and it is precisely these theoretical sizes that vary from one manufacturer to another.
The cut runs small: narrower in the shoulders and shorter in the body than a European cut of an equivalent size. When between two sizes, take the larger one: this is the advice that prevents the most returns.
A word on the letters. These sizes follow a specific nomenclature, and beyond XXL, standard Western ready-to-wear hardly uses them: a 4XL, 5XL, or 6XL does not correspond to any common standard size. Worse, the same letter does not mean the same thing from one manufacturer to another: in this category, an "L" ranges from 94 to 112 cm in chest circumference depending on the model. Do not trust the letter, trust the centimeter.

Did you know?
The name Yggdrasil most likely means "Yggr's horse"—Yggr being one of Odin's names, "the Terrible," and drasill being a poetic word for horse. Now, "riding the horse" is a metaphor for hanging in skaldic language: the gallows is the hanged man's mount. The world-tree's name, therefore, would refer directly to the episode in the Hávamál where Odin hangs himself from a tree for nine nights, wounded by a spear and offered to himself, to grasp the runes. The tree is not only the support of the world: in its very name, it is also a god's gallows.

What does the name Yggdrasil mean?
Most likely “Yggr's horse”, Yggr being one of Odin's names. Since “riding the horse” means hanging in skaldic language, the name would refer to the episode in which Odin hangs himself from a tree for nine nights to grasp the runes.
Are the ravens Huginn and Muninn?
The design refers to them without naming them. They are Odin's two ravens, “thought” and “memory”.
How is it different from the two other Yggdrasil designs in the section?
This one adds the ravens and an upward sweep. The second is an engraving under a moon; the third is in green and gold.
Is the silver shiny?
No, it is a matte light gray ink. It gives an engraved look, not a metallic one.
