A Cluster of Skulls Climbing the Lobe

These skull and crossbones earrings don't settle for a single motif: several heads and crossed tibias assemble into a cluster that climbs diagonally up the earlobe. It is the densest piece in the gothic section, occupying the most surface area for a simple stud earring. Find this product in our viking earrings collection.

For a single isolated skull rather than a cluster, our polished steel skull studs reduce the design to the essentials.

What Sets This Pair Apart

A climbing stud must hold the line of the lobe without tilting forward.

  • Diagonal composition: the design follows the natural curve of the lobe instead of spreading horizontally.
  • Openwork structure: the tibias are hollowed out, which lightens a piece that could easily become massive.
  • Push-back clasp: a single post and back, only one piercing is needed despite the size of the design.
  • Stainless steel: the numerous gaps between the bones do not accumulate oxidation.

Did you know?

The skull surmounting two crossbones is not originally piratical: it is a funerary emblem, engraved on European tombstones long before a ship ever hoisted it. It is found in abundance in 17th-century Scottish cemeteries, where it sits alongside winged hourglasses and bones—a whole vocabulary of passing time. The black flag came later, and its nickname even later still: the term "Jolly Roger" first appeared in print in 1724, in A General History of the Pyrates. The motif therefore changed sides along the way, from a reminder of death to a threat of inflicting it.
