A Hanging Scorpion, Claws Forward
These stainless steel scorpion earrings suspend the creature below the ear, tail raised and claws open facing forward. The body is segmented ring by ring, which gives the jewelry a visual flexibility that single-piece molded models lack. Find this product in our Viking earrings collection.
In the same vein of dark bestiaries, our spider studs play the subtle role where these play the eye-catching one.
What Sets This Pair Apart
A successful drop earring must move without flipping over and remain legible from a distance.
- Segmented body: the tail is composed of distinct rings, not a smoothed block—this is what makes the design recognizable at first glance.
- Dangle balance: the weight is distributed toward the bottom, so the piece hangs straight instead of pivoting on itself.
- Push-back clasp: straight post and back stopper, the simplest and most secure hold for a drop earring of this weight.
- Stainless steel: no discoloration over the months, unlike cheap silver-plated alloys.

Did you know?
There have never been scorpions in Scandinavia, and the climate explains why: these arachnids require soil that does not freeze deep down. The northernmost scorpion colony in the world does not even live in the North—it occupies the brick walls of the port of Sheerness, in the English county of Kent, where Euscorpius flavicaudis settled around 1860, likely arriving by boat from Italy. It has survived there for over a century and a half, just a few hundred kilometers from the coasts the Vikings sailed along—but a thousand years too late for any Norse warrior to have ever seen one.

Does the scorpion move when you wear it?
The body looks segmented, but the piece is rigid: it is not articulated. What moves is the whole drop, which swings slightly with every movement of your head.
What is the total length of the drop?
Allow about three centimeters from the piercing hole to the tip of the tail. It is a noticeable size, designed to be seen, but it stays above the jawline.
Does the scorpion have any meaning in Norse culture?
None, and we will not pretend otherwise. Scorpions do not live in Scandinavia and do not appear in any Old Norse source. It is a motif from biker and gothic fashion, which we offer for what it is.
Are these earrings suitable for a recent first piercing?
Wait until it has fully healed, usually six to eight weeks for an earlobe. A drop earring pulls in a way that starter studs do not, and it is best not to put that strain on a piercing that is still new.
