The Sea, Engraved With Interlace
These runic anchor earrings in stainless steel feature a curved-arm anchor, engraved along the entire shank, hanging from a small hoop. It is the most recognizable nautical motif in our collection. Find this product in our Viking earrings collection.

What Sets This Pair Apart
An instantly recognizable silhouette, enhanced by equally striking engraving.
- Curved arms: the classic shape of a nautical anchor, legible even from a distance.
- Interlace on the shank: the true Nordic touch of the piece, engraved rather than printed.
- Raw steel: blends into a dark outfit, unlike the gold version.
- Subtle drop: enough length to catch the eye, not enough to get in the way of a collar.

Did you know?
The Scandinavians did not have a magnetic compass, yet they crossed the North Atlantic. They navigated by dead reckoning, following known latitudes, reading the swell, the flight of birds, and the color of the water. The sagas also mention a sólarsteinn, or "sunstone," which is believed to have been an Icelandic calcite crystal capable of revealing the sun's position in overcast weather through light polarization. The hypothesis remains debated, but such a crystal was indeed found in a 16th-century English shipwreck.

What is the difference from the gold-tone model?
The motif and size are identical; only the finish changes. Plain steel stays understated and blends into a dark outfit, while the gold-tone version catches the light and can be seen from afar.
Did the Vikings use anchors?
Yes. The one from the Oseberg ship, made of iron with a wooden stock, has survived. However, the anchor was not a decorative motif: what is Norse here is the engraved knotwork.
How did they navigate without a compass?
By dead reckoning, following known latitudes and reading the swell, the birds and the color of the water. The sagas also mention a sunstone, most likely a calcite crystal.
Can it be worn on its own?
Yes, the vertical shape lends itself well to that. Many men wear a single drop earring, leaving the other ear bare or with a simple stud.
