The belt of fictional warriors, embossed with a very real design
A wide belt made of two stacked faux leather straps, joined by riveted bars. Each strap is embossed with knotwork along its whole length and closes with its own ornate buckle, bronze finish on the brown version, antique silver finish on the black.

What sets this piece apart
- Two buckles, two settings: each strap tightens separately, for a belt that sits straight or flares slightly over the hip.
- It shapes the silhouette: worn over a loose tunic or shirt, it marks the waist and instantly gives a warrior look.
- A design with meaning: the embossed knotwork draws on the vocabulary of Viking art, that of period buckles and brooches.
To complete the look, see our Viking Belt Pouch, which slides onto either strap.

Did you know?
Viking Age belts were narrow, two or three centimetres, and it was their metal that spoke: buckles, mounts and strap-ends in bronze, sometimes gilded, covered in knots and interlaced ribbons. These small pieces are among the finest of the Borre style, which flourished in Scandinavia in the 10th century. The wide belt belongs to the modern image of the warrior, that of TV series and role-playing; its knotwork, on the other hand, is squarely in the line of Viking art.
To explore further, our guide to Viking symbols explains knots and interlace, and our calendar of Viking fairs and festivals tells you where to wear it.

Is it real leather?
No: embossed faux leather, with metal buckles and rivets.
How does it adjust?
With its two prong buckles, one on each strap, like two stacked belts. You can fasten them on the same hole or on two different ones.
Do I wear it over trousers or over a tunic?
Preferably over a tunic or a loose shirt, at the waist, where it shapes the silhouette.
Did the Vikings wear wide belts?
No: their belts were two or three centimetres wide, decorated with metal buckles and strap-ends. The wide belt is a modern costume code; its knotwork, however, does come from Viking art.
What is the difference between the brown and the black?
Only the colour: bronze-finish buckles on the brown, antique silver finish on the black. The design and cut are the same.
