A piece with character, not a Nordic symbol

Let's be clear: the winged skull does not belong to Scandinavian iconography. It is a motif from the modern repertoire—that of bikers, rock, and tattoos—and that is perfectly fine. The winged skull was not born among bikers

The motif is much older than one might think. New England cemeteries from the 17th and 18th centuries are covered with winged death's heads—winged skulls engraved on Puritan headstones. The meaning was explicit: the soul takes flight, the body remains. The motif then softened into an angel's head, then an urn, as religion became less severe. It is this old memento mori that the biker repertoire reclaimed in the 20th century, keeping the image while losing the sermon.
