An open coffin, a skull looking back at you
An open stainless steel coffin in which rests a skull carved in relief, with hollowed-out eye sockets and clearly defined teeth. The bail features a small skull with bat wings, and the back of the coffin is hammered like raw wood. The pendant comes with its steel chain.

What makes this piece unique
- A deep-set skull: housed in the hollow of the coffin, recessed from the edge: the shadow of the walls accentuates the relief.
- A crafted bail: the small winged skull at the top echoes the main motif, whereas most pendants settle for a simple ring.
- A hammered back: the reverse is not smooth but textured, retaining its character even if it flips over.
- Different from our blue stone coffin: the latter is closed and understated; this one is open, revealing its skull.

Did you know?
The skull and the coffin are the two motifs of the memento mori, meaning "remember that you must die." In 17th-century England, it was common to provide in one's will for the creation of mourning rings for loved ones: gold rings adorned with an enameled skull, sometimes a tiny coffin, engraved with the name and date of death of the deceased. Wearing death as jewelry was not macabre: it was a way to keep someone close to you.

Is it a Viking symbol?
No. The skull in its coffin belongs to the memento mori tradition and to gothic aesthetics. It is listed in our necklace section with no claim to Norse origins.
What is it made of?
Stainless steel, which does not rust or turn your skin green.
Is the back smooth?
No, it is hammered to look like rough wood. The pendant still looks good when it flips over.
