Three loops, a single line
The triquetra is drawn with a single stroke: three intertwined loops, with no beginning and no end. This stainless steel pendant encloses an oval opalite, a milky stone with blue shimmers reminiscent of moonstone. The piece is delicate—approximately 3.5 cm—and hangs on a 60 cm Venetian chain that falls below the collarbone. Find it in our Viking Necklace collection.
A shared symbol
The triquetra is often presented as "the" Viking knot. The reality is more nuanced, and more interesting: the motif certainly appears on Scandinavian objects—the Funbo runestone in Sweden, or the richly carved bed of the Oseberg ship—but it is found just as often in Insular Celtic art and Christian manuscripts. It is a motif that Northern Europe passed from hand to hand. Our guide to Viking symbols distinguishes between historically attested motifs and recent inventions.

For whom
A delicate gift, often chosen for a woman, that will appeal to anyone who likes Nordic symbols without the bulkiness. Also available in the same family: the tiger's eye triquetra necklace.
Is the stone a real moonstone?
No — and we'd rather say so. It's an opalite, an opalescent glass with bluish glints that imitates moonstone. It has the same milky look and the same glints, for a piece you can wear every day without worry.
Is the triquetra a Viking symbol?
The three-looped knot does appear on Viking Age objects — the Funbo runestone in Sweden, the bed from the Oseberg ship. But it's also found in Insular Celtic and Christian art: it's a shared motif, not an exclusively Scandinavian one.
Is it a necklace for women?
It's unisex, but its slim size and light-colored stone make it a very popular gift for women. The 60 cm chain lets it fall below the collarbone.
