Ten long, openwork tubes — to dress up the braid along its entire length
A set of ten bronze-patinated alloy tubes, two and a half times longer than our engraved beard beads: twenty-five millimeters of openwork scrolls, bordered at the top and bottom with a fluted edge. Where a bead marks a single point, these dress an entire segment of a braid.

What sets this set apart
- Openwork throughout: the metal is cut out, not engraved. The hair is visible through it, and the tube weighs significantly less than a solid bead of the same size.
- Ten pieces: enough to equip several braids, or to align three or four on a single one — this item is designed for repetition.
- A scroll motif, not a symbol: these scrolls belong to an ornamental vocabulary; they carry no runes or signs to interpret.

Did you know?
The long format is not just an aesthetic whim: the taller a ring is, the more it distributes its grip on the braid, and the less it slips. This is exactly why braid cuffs exist wherever people wear long, braided hair — from West Africa to Scandinavia. On ten-millimeter short beads, it is the thickness of the braid that acts as a stopper; on twenty-five-millimeter ones, the length itself provides the hold.
To learn more, our Viking hairstyle guide details cuts, braids, and beards, with historical sources, and explains how to make a braid that stays in place.

How many tubes are in the set?
Ten identical tubes, in bronze-patina alloy. They measure about 25 mm long and 9 mm in diameter.
How are they different from the engraved beads in the section?
These tubes are more than twice as long, cut with openwork instead of engraved, and carry no runes. They dress a whole section of a braid, whereas a bead marks a single point.
Do they go on before or after braiding?
Before: you thread them onto the lock of hair, then braid. The bulk of the braid and the length of the tube lock them together.
Are they suitable for dreadlocks?
Yes, that is actually what they were originally meant for. Their hole is wider than that of our rune beads, and their length holds better on a loc than a short bead does.
