A Warrior and Plenty of Red
This Viking warrior t-shirt places a bearded, helmeted fighter at the center of the chest, shield raised, against a background of black runes and red splashes, with the word VIKINGS in bold lettering below the figure. The print is all-over, and the red continues onto the sleeves. Find this model in our Viking t-shirts collection.
For a warrior rendered in a cool palette, the warrior with turquoise flames is the exact opposite.
What Sets This T-Shirt Apart
A human figure on a t-shirt succeeds or fails on one single point: the face.
- Detailed face: the features, beard, and helmet are drawn with fine lines, not suggested by blobs — this is what avoids the blurry smudge effect from a distance.
- Runic background: lines of runes run behind the figure, providing a backdrop without stealing the spotlight.
- Sublimation: the red splashes transition in a continuous gradient, without the visible steps a screen print would have.
- Lightweight polyester: the vivid reds stay vivid, which cotton loses after the first few washes.
If you prefer a screen-printed warrior on cotton, the Valhalla warrior and runes uses the same figure but with a more sober design.
Choosing Your Size
These measurements are for the garment laid flat, not your body. The width is taken from one armpit seam to the other; the chest circumference is that width multiplied by two. Allow for a tolerance of one to two centimeters: these garments are measured by hand. The manufacturer does not provide measurements for XS.
| Size | Width flat | Chest circumference |
|---|---|---|
| XXS | 48 cm | 96 cm |
| S | 50 cm | 100 cm |
| M | 53 cm | 106 cm |
| L | 56 cm | 112 cm |
| XL | 59 cm | 118 cm |
| 2XL | 62 cm | 124 cm |
| 3XL | 65 cm | 130 cm |
| 4XL | 68 cm | 136 cm |
| 5XL | 71 cm | 142 cm |
The foolproof method: take a t-shirt you already own and that fits you well. Lay it flat and measure from one armpit seam to the other. Enter this figure in the Width flat column: no calculations needed. You are comparing a garment to a garment, without relying on a theoretical size — and it is precisely these theoretical sizes that vary from one manufacturer to another.
The fit runs small: narrower in the shoulders and shorter in the body than a European cut of an equivalent size. If between two sizes, choose the larger one: this is the advice that prevents the most returns.
A word on the letters. These sizes follow a specific nomenclature, and beyond XXL, European ready-to-wear barely uses them: a 4XL, 5XL, or 6XL does not correspond to any common European size. Worse, the same letter does not mean the same thing from one manufacturer to another: in this category, a "L" can range from 94 to 112 cm in chest circumference depending on the model. Do not trust the letter, trust the centimeter.

Did you know?
The horned helmet never existed. No helmet from the Viking Age found in excavations has horns — and in fact, only one complete one has ever been found, the Gjermundbu helmet in Norway, which is smooth, with a four-plate dome and eye mask. The invention is precisely dated: it comes from costumes designed by Carl Emil Doepler for the premiere of Wagner's Ring cycle at Bayreuth in 1876. In less than a century, the motif became the universal visual shortcut for a Viking, to the point where no Scandinavian museum can get rid of it. The warrior on this t-shirt wears a horned helmet: it is opera costume, and we prefer to acknowledge it.

Is the horned helmet historical?
No, and we say so plainly. It comes from Carl Emil Doepler's costumes for Wagner's Ring at Bayreuth in 1876. The only complete Viking helmet ever found, the one from Gjermundbu, is smooth.
Is there a lot of red?
It's the dominant color of the design after black. It fills the background and carries on onto the sleeves.
Can the word VIKINGS be read from a distance?
Yes, it's the most visible element of the garment from several meters away, even before the figure of the warrior.
Do the runes in the background say anything?
No, they're decorative friezes. We won't pretend to read a message in them.
