A Complaint About the State of the World
This funny Viking T-shirt frames a horned, helmeted skull between two blocks of English text: The problem with society today is that no one drinks from the skulls of their enemies anymore. Find this design in our Viking T-shirts collection.

What Sets This T-Shirt Apart
A T-shirt with a long text lives or dies by its typographic hierarchy.
- Four type sizes: the words SOCIETY and SKULLS are printed large, the rest small: the sentence reads in the right order without effort.
- Central skull: the illustration separates the setup from the punchline, which preserves the effect instead of delivering everything in one block.
- White on black: no accent color: legibility comes first, and the design stays sharp from several meters away.
- Cotton: soft knit and summer comfort, for a garment you wear to be read.
If you like the skull in a serious register, the See You In Valhalla takes up the motif without the joke.
Choosing Your Size
The manufacturer does not provide a measurement chart for this model. Rather than leave you with no reference point, here is an estimated range, calculated from the two adult charts documented on other models in the collection. These are ballpark figures, not guaranteed measurements — we would rather say so.
| Size | Width laid flat | Chest |
|---|---|---|
| S | 49 to 51 cm | 98 to 102 cm |
| M | 51 to 54 cm | 102 to 108 cm |
| L | 53 to 57 cm | 106 to 114 cm |
| XL | 55 to 60 cm | 110 to 120 cm |
| 2XL | 57 to 63 cm | 114 to 126 cm |
| 3XL | 59 to 66 cm | 118 to 132 cm |
| 4XL | 61 to 69 cm | 122 to 138 cm |
| 5XL | 63 to 72 cm | 126 to 144 cm |
| 6XL | 65 to 75 cm | 130 to 150 cm |
The range widens in the larger sizes because the two known charts diverge from XL on: one increases by 4 cm per size, the other by 6.
The method that never fails: take a T-shirt you already wear and that fits you well. Lay it flat and measure from one armpit seam to the other. Match that number against the Width laid flat column: no calculation needed. This way you compare a garment with a garment, without going through a theoretical size — and it is precisely theoretical sizes that vary from one manufacturer to another.
The cut runs small: narrower in the shoulders and shorter in the body than a European cut of the same size. If you are between two sizes, take the larger one: it is the advice that prevents the most returns.
A word about the letters. These sizes follow their own lettering system, and beyond XXL French ready-to-wear practically never uses them: a 4XL, 5XL or 6XL corresponds to no common French size. Worse, the same letter does not mean the same thing from one manufacturer to another: in this collection, an “L” ranges from 94 to 112 cm of chest measurement depending on the model. Don't trust the letter, trust the centimeter.

Did You Know?
The joke rests on a translation error nearly four centuries old, and it can be dated. In 1636, the Danish scholar Ole Worm published the Runir seu Danica literatura antiquissima, in which he translated a passage from the Krákumál, a death song attributed to Ragnar Lothbrok. The text announces that the warriors will soon drink ór bjúgviðum hausa — “from the curved branches of the skull”, an entirely classic kenning for drinking horns, which do indeed grow on the animal's skull. Worm rendered the phrase as ex craniis eorum quos occiderant, “from the skulls of those they had slain”. The image was too good to die: it has come down through four centuries, and it is printed on this T-shirt.

Did the Vikings really drink from skulls?
No. The idea comes from a translation error by Ole Worm in 1636: the kenning ór bjúgviðum hausa, “from the curved branches of the skull”, refers to drinking horns. He rendered it as “in the skulls of those they had slain”.
Is the text in English?
Yes. The line plays on the tone of a grumble at the bar, and translating it into French would ruin the effect.
Is the design large?
It is one of the largest prints in our range: the block of text and the skull take up almost the entire chest.
Is the back printed?
No, the back is plain black. All the printing is on the chest.
