A Shield and Two Axes
This Ragnar Lothbrok Viking t-shirt features a round shield engraved with the name RAGNAR LOTHBROK, placed over two crossed axes, all surrounded by a halo of rays. The design is monochrome, featuring shades between metallic gray and weathered beige. Find this model in our viking t-shirts collection.
For axes arranged horizontally, see the Til Valhalla with crossed axes.
What Sets This T-Shirt Apart
A centered emblem thrives on its symmetry: as soon as an axis is off, the eye notices it without knowing why.
- Symmetrical composition: the two axes cross exactly behind the center of the shield, and the rays radiate from a single point.
- Circular text: the name runs along the edge of the shield rather than across it: the design remains an object, not a poster.
- Masterful patina: the gray is intentionally worn, avoiding the "brand-new" look of overly clean prints.
- Cotton: a print with an aged look is best worn on a material that also ages well.
If you prefer a warrior to an emblem, the Valhalla warrior and runes places a figure at the center.
Choosing Your Size
The manufacturer does not provide a size chart for this model. Rather than leaving you without a reference, here is an estimated range, calculated from the two adult size guides documented for other models in the department. These are orders of magnitude, not guaranteed measurements—we prefer to be transparent.
| Size | Flat Width | Chest Circumference |
|---|---|---|
| S | 49 to 51 cm | 98 to 102 cm |
| M | 51 to 54 cm | 102 to 108 cm |
| L | 53 to 57 cm | 106 to 114 cm |
| XL | 55 to 60 cm | 110 to 120 cm |
| 2XL | 57 to 63 cm | 114 to 126 cm |
| 3XL | 59 to 66 cm | 118 to 132 cm |
| 4XL | 61 to 69 cm | 122 to 138 cm |
| 5XL | 63 to 72 cm | 126 to 144 cm |
| 6XL | 65 to 75 cm | 130 to 150 cm |
The range widens for larger sizes because the two known charts diverge starting from XL: one increases by 4 cm per size, the other by 6.
The foolproof method: take a t-shirt you already own and that fits you well. Lay it flat and measure from one armpit seam to the other. Use this figure in the Flat Width column: no calculations needed. This way, you are comparing garment to garment, without relying on a theoretical size—and it is precisely these theoretical sizes that vary from one manufacturer to another.
The cut runs small: narrower in the shoulders and shorter in the body than a European cut of the equivalent size. Between two sizes, take the larger one: this is the advice that prevents the most returns.
A word on letters. These sizes follow a specific nomenclature, and beyond XXL, standard French ready-to-wear rarely uses them: a 4XL, 5XL, or 6XL does not correspond to any common French size. Worse, the same letter does not mean the same thing from one manufacturer to another: in this department, a "L" can range from 94 to 112 cm in chest circumference depending on the model. Do not trust the letter, trust the centimeter.

Did you know?
Ragnar Lothbrok poses a problem that his sons do not. Ivar, Ubba, and Halfdan are historical figures: the Anglo-Saxon Chronicle and Irish Annals name them, date their campaigns, and follow the Great Heathen Army from 865 to 878. Ragnar, however, does not appear in any contemporary source. He emerges three centuries later in the Saga of Ragnar Lothbrok and in the writings of Saxo Grammaticus, who attribute contradictory feats and incompatible dates to him. The most common interpretation today is that he is a composite figure, aggregating several real 9th-century chieftains—a character constructed after the fact to provide a common father for very real sons.

Did Ragnar Lothbrok really exist?
His sons did: Ivar, Ubba and Halfdan are named and dated in the Anglo-Saxon Chronicle. Ragnar himself does not appear in any contemporary source and only emerges three centuries later. He is very likely a composite figure.
What does Lothbrok mean?
“Hairy Breeches”, in other words fur trousers. The saga explains the nickname by breeches boiled in pitch that he is said to have worn to fight a serpent.
Is the design very visible?
The shield covers a good width across the center of the chest, in a deliberately understated weathered gray. It reads well up close, less so from a distance.
How do I wash a print with a distressed look?
Inside out, at 30 °C, without fabric softener, and air-dry it. The worn look is part of the design; it will not get stronger in the wash.
