Viking Intertwined Beasts & Runic Circle Tapestry — Black and Red

Two ivory beasts entwine in a continuous knot at the center of a large, dark red runic circle, set against a black background covered in runes. An interlace frieze runs along the bottom of the piece.

The story behind the motif

This animal knot is the signature of the Urnes style, the last great ornamental style of the Viking Age (11th century), named after the Norwegian stave church whose portals are covered in it. The bodies stretch out until they become ribbon-like: it is impossible to tell where the beast begins and where the ornament ends.

Where to hang it

On the wall of course, but also as a headboard, a room divider, stretched across the ceiling, or draped over a sofa. The large formats cover an entire wall; the small ones are easy to frame.

Care

Hand wash or machine wash on a delicate, cold cycle. Do not use bleach, air dry. Iron at a low temperature on the reverse side if necessary.
