Four loops, not three — and that's no detail
A wide openwork plate forming a four-loop knot in a cross shape, set within a circle. Gold-plated steel. The design spans the full width of the finger and is visible from afar.

What sets this piece apart
- It is not a triquetra: the triquetra has three loops, this one has four. The confusion is constant, and we prefer to clear it up.
- The plate is wide but openwork: it provides coverage without feeling heavy, allowing the skin to show through the braiding.
- The loops are domed: each one catches the light individually, adding relief to a flat pattern.

Did you know?
The four-loop design goes by several names depending on the seller: witch's knot, Dara knot, Saint John’s square knot. None are ancient. The "Dara knot," for example, takes its name from the Gaelic doire, meaning oak — but the term does not date back further than the 2000s and the rise of online jewelry sales. What is ancient, however, is the concept: a braid without beginning or end was thought to trap evil by forcing it to traverse an infinite loop, an idea found everywhere from Irish doorsteps to Anatolian carpets.
To explore further, our Viking Ring collection gathers other models, and our Viking jewelry features the rest of our catalog.

Is it a triquetra?
No. The triquetra has three loops; this knot has four. It is the witch's knot, a modern symbol.
Why is it also called the Dara knot?
It is a recent commercial name, taken from the Gaelic doire, the oak. It goes back no further than the 2000s.
Is the top heavy?
No, it is fully openwork: it covers the width of the finger without the weight of a solid ring.
What sizes are available?
From 54 to 65 in French sizing (finger circumference), i.e. US 7 to US 11.
