The name is a thousand years old, the design four hundred
A thin band in steel, crowned with a round top engraved with the Ægishjálmur — eight arms radiating from a center, each bristling with crossbars. Gold-tone or silver-tone finish.

What sets this piece apart
- The top is small and the band very thin: this is a ring for everyday wear, including on the ring finger or the little finger.
- The engraving is recessed: it keeps its contrast through wear, unlike a printed motif.
- Stainless steel: no rust, no blackening, no skin reaction.

Did you know?
The Ægishjálmur is a rare case: its name truly is ancient, its design is not. The word œgishjálmr, “helm of terror,” appears in the Völsunga saga and in the Fáfnismál: it is what the dragon Fáfnir wears, and it makes anyone who meets his gaze flee. That name is a thousand years old. But the eight-armed motif you see here only goes back to the Icelandic grimoires of the 16th and 17th centuries, notably the Galdrabók. Six centuries separate the word from the design that carries it today.
To go further, our Viking Ring section brings together the other designs, and our Viking jewelry the rest of the shop.

Is the Ægishjálmur a Viking symbol?
The name is, the design is not. Œgishjálmr appears in the Völsunga saga, but the eight-armed motif comes from Icelandic grimoires of the 16th–17th centuries.
What does the name mean?
“Helm of Awe”. In the saga, it is what the dragon Fáfnir wears: anyone who looks at him flees.
What sizes are available?
From 54 to 62 in French sizing (finger circumference), which is US 7 to US 10.
Does the gold-tone finish wear off?
It is applied over stainless steel and stands up to daily wear. Avoid abrasive products.
