Two Intertwined Circles
This black Viking bandana features a rayed sun wheel intertwined with a Vegvísir, all traced in light gray on the top of the skull, with interlacing patterns extending toward the edges. No figures, animals, or scenes: it is the only purely geometric composition of the nine. Find it in our Viking clothing department.
For a black background with much stronger contrast, see the gold Yggdrasil bandana.
What Sets This Bandana Apart
The light gray on black provides an intermediate contrast, neither subtle nor ostentatious.
- Purely geometric composition: the only one in the set without any figures or decorations — two circles and interlacing, nothing else.
- Measured contrast: the pattern is visible up close and fades from a distance, the opposite of the gold-on-black model.
- Very light fabric: it folds into a pocket and dries quickly after washing.
- Flat ties: no bulk under a hood.
For a more colorful circular pattern, see the red medallion bandana.

Did you know?
The rayed "sun wheel" is well-attested in Scandinavia, but fifteen hundred years before the Vikings. The Trundholm sun chariot, discovered in Denmark in 1902, dates to about 1400 BCE: a bronze disc, gilded on one side, pulled by a horse and mounted on six wheels. It belongs to the Nordic Bronze Age, a culture that left thousands of rock carvings where the disc appears repeatedly. The motif spanned the centuries into Viking ornamentation, losing its original meaning along the way.

Cap or bandana: which one to choose?
| Type | How it stays on | When to choose it |
|---|---|---|
| Tie bandana this product | Two flat ties knot at the back of the head. The knot does the tightening: nothing to adjust, nothing to squeeze. | To keep your hair back, protect yourself from the sun or wear it under a helmet. Nine designs, no size to choose. |
| Classic cap | Structured crown, pre-curved visor, adjustable strap at the back. | The shape everyone knows. Three models, two of them in four and five colors: the widest palette in the range. |
| Washed denim cap | The same structure, but a cotton canvas washed after dyeing: thicker, more matte, with a soft visor. | When you prefer a material that looks worn in from day one. Three models, each piece with its own washed shades. |
How to wear it
There is no size to choose. The bandana sits on the head and ties at the back with two flat ties sewn into the fabric. The knot sets the tightness: you decide whether it sits tight or loose.
The right move: place the front edge of the fabric against your forehead, bring the two ties behind your head, cross them under the base of your skull, then tie. The back flap then falls naturally onto the nape of your neck.
Under a helmet or a hood: the ties are flat and the fabric stays thin, which avoids pressure points. This is a common use for this type of bandana.
Care: hand wash at 30 °C, air dry. The fabric is light and dries quickly; avoid the tumble dryer, which sets the creases of the knot.
What is a sun wheel?
A spoked disc, a very old ornamental motif in Northern Europe. Here it's paired with a Vegvísir, in a circular composition unique in the collection.
Is the design high-contrast?
Moderately: light gray on black. You can read it up close and just make it out from a distance — the opposite of the gold-on-black bandana.
Is the fabric thick?
No, it's a lightweight polyester. It folds up very small and dries quickly, which makes it easy to take along.
How many black bandanas are there in the collection?
Four, each with a different design: this one, the gold Yggdrasil, the red medallion and the charcoal Vegvísir.
