Gold on Black, the Sharpest Contrast
This black Viking bandana features a large golden Yggdrasil on the top, surrounded by small Vegvísir scattered across the background. It ties at the back with two flat straps. The ink is a matte gold, with no metallic thread or raised texture. Find it in our Viking clothing section.

Did you know?
Real gold was rare in Scandinavia: there were no exploited deposits on the peninsula during the Viking Age. All the gold handled came from elsewhere — loot, tribute, or trade, often in the form of melted-down Byzantine and Arab coins. This is why Scandinavian hoards contain mostly silver: excavations in Gotland have yielded over seven hundred treasures, the vast majority in silver dirhams minted thousands of kilometers away.

How to wear it
There is no size to choose. The bandana sits on the head and ties at the back with two flat ties sewn into the fabric. The knot sets the tightness: you decide whether it sits tight or loose.
The right move: place the front edge of the fabric against your forehead, bring the two ties behind your head, cross them under the base of your skull, then tie. The back flap then falls naturally onto the nape of your neck.
Under a helmet or a hood: the ties are flat and the fabric stays thin, which avoids pressure points. This is a common use for this type of bandana.
Care: hand wash at 30 °C, air dry. The fabric is light and dries quickly; avoid the tumble dryer, which sets the creases of the knot.
How does it differ from the khaki bandana?
The background is black instead of green, and the design adds small Vegvísir symbols around the tree. The contrast with the gold is stronger.
Is the gold shiny?
No, it is a matte gold ink. No metallic thread, no relief.
Does the black bleed in the wash?
Hand wash at 30 °C, separately the first time as a precaution, as with any dark printed textile.
