A wolf, a moon, a circle of runes
The medallion features a howling wolf, mouth open, in front of a full moon silhouetted by trees — all encircled by embossed Futhark runes. Stainless steel, approximately 3.5 cm in diameter, on a 60 cm braided chain. Find it in our Viking Necklace collection.
The wolf in Norse mythology
No other animal is more significant. Fenrir, son of Loki, grew so fast that the gods became afraid: they had him chained with Gleipnir, a fetter woven — according to the Gylfaginning — from the sound of a cat's footfall, the beard of a woman, the roots of a mountain, and the breath of a fish. Only Týr agreed to place his hand in the wolf's mouth as a sign of good faith; he lost it. At Ragnarök, Fenrir will break his chains. Our article on Fenrir tells the whole story.

For whom
For lovers of wolves and mythology, plain and simple. The circle of runes surrounding it is deciphered in our guide to Futhark runes.
Does the wolf represent Fenrir?
Nothing on the pendant formally says so — it's a wolf howling at the moon, a free motif. But in Norse mythology, the wolf leads straight to Fenrir, son of Loki, bound by the fetter Gleipnir and destined to devour Odin at Ragnarök.
Do the runes around the edge form a word?
No: they're Futhark characters arranged in a decorative circle, with no message. We'd rather say so than invent a translation.
How big is it?
A medallion about 3.5 cm in diameter, on a 60 cm braided chain — visible without being bulky.
