A wolf made of knots
The wolf's head is not carved realistically: it is constructed in interlace, with its mouth open, fangs and ears emerging from a tangle of golden lines set against a blackened steel background. This is exactly how Scandinavian art treats animals. Approximately 3.5 cm, on a 60 cm braided chain. Find it in our Viking Necklace collection.
Fenrir, the wolf the gods feared
Son of Loki, he grew so quickly that the Aesir decided to bind him. Two chains broke. The third, Gleipnir, was forged by the dwarves from six things that do not exist—the sound of a cat's footfall, the beard of a woman, the roots of a mountain, the sinews of a bear, the breath of a fish, the spittle of a bird. Fenrir only accepted the binding on one condition: that a god place his hand in his mouth as a pledge. Tyr did so, and lost it. Our article on Fenrir tells the rest of the story.

For whom
For wolf lovers who want something other than a realistic design.
Does the wolf represent Fenrir?
Nothing formally identifies it as such, but in the Norse imagination the wolf leads straight to Fenrir, son of Loki, bound by the fetter Gleipnir and destined to devour Odin at Ragnarök.
Why is the head rendered in knotwork?
Because that is how Scandinavian art depicts animals: never naturalistically, always as bodies tying themselves into knots. The Borre and Urnes styles are built entirely on this principle.
Does the gold tone last?
Yes. It is a PVD plating over stainless steel that stands up to everyday wear. Just avoid abrasives.
