Flight Rather Than the Perched Bird
These large raven hoop earrings in stainless steel capture the birds in mid-flight, wings spread, distributed along a wide ring. Most raven jewelry features a stationary head or profile; here, the large diameter serves the subject by giving the flight room to be read. Find this product in our Viking earrings collection.

What Sets This Pair Apart
This is the most generous hoop in our range, and the design needed it.
- Large diameter: the ring sits well below the lobe, which leaves room for the spread wings.
- Birds in motion: captured in flight rather than perched, distributed along the entire curve.
- Individualized feathers: each wing is engraved, not simply cut as a silhouette.
- Closed hoop: despite the size, there are no moving parts or visible hooks.

Did you know?
The raven was not just Odin's bird: it also fluttered over battlefields. Several Anglo-Saxon and Scandinavian sources mention the raven banner, the hrafnsmerki, carried by Viking chieftains—the Anglo-Saxon Chronicle reports that one such banner was captured from the brothers of Ragnar in Devon in 878. Legend says that the embroidered bird seemed to flap its wings before a victory and hang limp before a defeat. A hoop of birds in flight captures, perhaps unknowingly, this ancient omen.

Are these hoops very large?
They have the largest diameter in the collection: the ring hangs well below the lobe. If you want the same symbol in a discreet version, our Odin's raven studs are the exact opposite.
Did the raven banner really exist?
Yes, the hrafnsmerki is mentioned in several sources. The Anglo-Saxon Chronicle records one of these banners being captured from Ragnar's brothers in Devon in 878.
Is the weight uncomfortable?
Stainless steel stays light, and the closed ring spreads the load over the lobe. If your ears are sensitive, alternate with a stud.
Can I wear just one?
Yes. At this diameter, a single hoop is often enough to give structure to the silhouette, especially with your hair pulled back.
