What sets this piece apart
- Lava is porous: its cavities hold a drop of essential oil for several hours. That is the usual use for this stone.
- The seven colors are in order: from red to violet, they follow the traditional sequence from bottom to top.
- Matte black sets off the colors: with no shine to compete with them, the seven beads stand out sharply.

Did you know?
There is nothing Norse about the seven chakras: the system comes from Indian tantric traditions, where it refers to energy centers aligned along the spine, from the pelvis to the crown of the head. Each is assigned a color, from red at the base to violet at the top — but this rainbow color code is recent: it became fixed in the West in the 20th century, notably under the influence of the author Christopher Hills in the 1970s. Ancient Sanskrit texts do describe colors, yes, but not these ones, and not in this order.
To go further, our Viking bracelets carry the same idea across ten stones, and our Viking jewelry covers the rest of the shop.

Are the seven chakras a Viking symbol?
No, not at all. The system comes from Indian tantric traditions.
Why is lava stone porous?
Because the basalt cooled so quickly that gas bubbles were trapped in the rock.
Can I put essential oil on it?
Yes, that is the common use for this stone: one drop on a bead lasts several hours.
Does the order of the colors mean anything?
It follows the modern Western sequence, from red to violet. This color code dates from the 20th century, not from ancient texts.
