A stone that bears the name of the man who found it in 1868
A row of white howlite beads, veined with gray like marble, with an orange glass bead at the center framed by two silver-colored crowns. Mounted on an elastic band: it slips on without a clasp.

What makes this piece unique
- No two beads have the same veining: howlite is crossed by fine gray lines that are different on every bead.
- The central bead breaks the white: an orange dot in the middle of a light row is what prevents the bracelet from disappearing on fair skin.
- The elastic slips on with one hand: no clasp to maneuver behind the wrist.

Did you know?
Howlite bears the name of a man and a date: Henry How, a Canadian mineralogist, identified it in 1868 near Windsor, Nova Scotia. Gypsum miners had reported a white mineral to him that was so hard it damaged their tools. Its whiteness and gray veins gave it a special destiny: because it is porous, it absorbs dye deeply, and the jewelry industry has used it for a century to imitate turquoise. A good portion of the world's inexpensive "turquoise" is actually howlite painted blue.
To explore further, our viking bracelets offer the same concept in ten different stones, and our viking jewelry covers the rest of the shop.

What is howlite?
A white mineral veined with gray, identified in 1868 by Henry How in Nova Scotia. It is porous, which makes it easy to dye.
Are the gray veins natural?
Yes, they are in the stone. That is why no two beads are identical.
Is the center bead a stone?
No, it is an orange glass bead. It provides a point of contrast in the middle of the light-colored strand.
Does the bracelet have a clasp?
No, it is strung on elastic and slips right on.
