The Viking arm ring, ending in two dragons facing each other
A torc in twisted stainless steel, open, whose two ends finish in a dragon head: a stylised head with a knotwork collar for six models, a horned dragon with chiselled scales for the seventh. The bangle opens slightly to slip over the wrist, then closes by hand. Seven finishes, from blackened steel to gold-tone.

What sets this piece apart
- A period shape: the open bracelet with animal heads is one of the most worn pieces of jewelry of the Viking Age, and one of the most often found in hoards.
- Adjustable: the opening is set with a press of the fingers, no tools needed, for most adult wrists.
- Stainless steel: it does not turn skin green, is not bothered by water or sweat, and keeps its colour.
To match it, see our Viking Odin's Ravens Bracelet, a bangle of the same family ending in two raven heads.

Did you know?
Scandinavians of the Viking Age wore silver or gold arm rings, often twisted, which served as much as adornment as a store of wealth: a piece was cut off to pay, and buried hoards yield plenty of such fragments. A generous chief was a "ring-breaker", who handed out these bracelets to his followers. The beast-head ends belong to the same animal art as brooches, carved posts and ship prows.
To explore further, our guide to Viking symbols tells what the dragon stood for.

Is the torc adjustable?
Yes: the opening between the two heads closes or widens with a press of the fingers. Go gradually, without forcing it all at once, so as not to tire the metal.
What is it made of?
Stainless steel: it does not rust, does not turn skin green and can handle water. The blackened, gold-tone or two-tone finishes are surface colourings on the steel.
What size is it?
About 18 cm around, adjustable around that size thanks to the opening: it fits most adult wrists.
Why dragon heads?
Viking Age arm rings often ended in animal heads, in the same style as brooches and carved posts. The dragon, also found on the prows of ships, is one of the most emblematic.
Did the Vikings wear torcs?
Yes. Twisted arm rings in silver or gold were both jewelry and a store of wealth: pieces were cut off to pay.
