An embossed tree on the cover, pages you can replace at will

An A5 notebook built as a ring binder. Its faux leather cover bears an embossed tree of life, roots spread wide, between a sun and a crescent moon. Metal corners protect the edges, an elastic band keeps it shut, and six rings hold 120 lined sheets that you can add, remove or replace without tearing anything. Two colours: green or brown.

Find it in our Yggdrasil section.

What sets this piece apart

  • A notebook that never runs out: the rings open, the sheets move or get replaced, and the six-ring A5 format is a stationery standard.
  • A cover that ages well: the embossing is deep, the faux leather comes pre-weathered and the metal corners keep the edges from fraying.
  • A real working size: big enough to write comfortably, small enough to travel in a bag.

To go with it, see our Viking Wooden Rune Set, which comes with its guide.

Did you know?

In Norse mythology, the world tree is called Yggdrasil: a vast ash whose branches spread over the sky and whose three roots reach down to three worlds. The Völuspá, the first poem of the Poetic Edda, calls it "ever green" above the well of Urd. The tree of life on this cover borrows the idea without copying it.

The Vikings themselves did not write in notebooks: they carved runes into wood, bone or stone. At Bryggen, the old harbour of Bergen, several hundred medieval rune sticks have been found: accounts, merchandise tags, love messages. Our article on writing in runes teaches you to transcribe your name.
