The helmet, the axes, and the circle of runes
In the center of the pendant, a warrior's helmet viewed from the front — skullcap and nose guard, without horns — resting on two crossed axes. Surrounding it, a steel ring engraved with Futhark runes. Stainless steel, approximately 3.5 cm, on a 60 cm braided chain. Find it in our Viking Necklace collection.
A helmet consistent with archaeology
It is rare enough to be worth noting: this pendant does not use the horned helmet of popular imagery. There is only one complete Viking helmet known, discovered at Gjermundbu in Norway in 1943 — an iron skullcap made of four plates, with a mask protecting the eyes and nose. No horns. Those come from 19th-century Wagnerian opera costumes. Our article on the Viking axe details real weaponry.

For whom
For anyone who wants the warrior without the folklore. See also our collection of weapons and replicas.
Did the Viking helmet have horns?
No — and, rightly, the helmet on this pendant doesn't have any. Only one complete Viking helmet has ever been found, at Gjermundbu in Norway: an iron cap made of four plates with a spectacle guard, without a single horn. The horned helmet is an invention of 19th-century opera.
Why two crossed axes?
Because the axe, not the sword, was the ordinary Viking's weapon: already found on every farm and far cheaper to make. It dominates warrior graves by a wide margin.
Do the runes on the ring spell a word?
No, they're Futhark characters arranged in a decorative circle. We'd rather say so than invent a translation.
