A hooked blade, a fully wrapped handle — the rawest piece in the department
A wide blade, eaten with pits and reliefs like an eroded stone, extended at the back by a curved hook. The handle disappears under crossed straps, and ends at the top and bottom with two light-colored tips imitating bone. It is the wildest piece in the entire department.

What sets this piece apart
- A hook on the back of the blade: this curved extension is not an attested Scandinavian form — it is a modern fantasy design, and we state this rather than selling it as archaeology.
- The fully wrapped handle: crossed straps run along its entire length, which changes the grip compared to a bare handle.
- 58 cm in PU foam: the longest of the axes in this batch, yet the easiest to carry for a long time thanks to the material.
- It is not a weapon: the PU foam with a rigid core does not cut, pierce, or strike. This replica is made for costumes, reenactment, and the wall.

Did you know?
The hook on the back of the blade did exist in European history — but not among the Vikings. It appeared in the late Middle Ages on crow's beaks (becs de corbin) and war hammers, to counter something the Scandinavians never had to face: plate armor. Against a steel plate, a sharp edge slips; a narrow point, however, concentrates all the impact on one spot and can pierce. The Viking axe, facing chainmail and wooden shields, had no reason to invent this.
To learn more, our anatomy of the Viking sword details how these weapons were forged, and our dossier on warrior equipment puts each piece into its proper context.

Does this axe cut?
No. PU foam with a rigid core, no edge: it's a costume and decorative replica.
Is the spike on the back of the head historical?
Not among the Vikings. This extension appears in the late Middle Ages on crow's-beak war hammers, to pierce plate armor — a kind of protection the Scandinavians never knew.
How long is it exactly?
About 58 cm in total length, with a head of around twenty centimeters. It's the longest in this series.
Is the handle comfortable?
It's wrapped in crisscrossed straps along its entire length, which gives a more textured grip than a smooth handle.
