The short format — the one you actually wear on your belt
Thirty-six centimeters exactly, and that's the whole point. A silver crescent blade mounted on a gold-toned, cobblestone-patterned body, pierced with a large circular eye, on a short black handle. This is the axe you can keep on your belt all evening without even noticing it.

What sets this piece apart
- Size changes everything: at 36 cm, it can be worn on a belt and handled indoors without bumping into anyone. 50 to 60 cm models quickly become cumbersome in a crowd.
- Two finishes on one piece: the crescent edge remains silver while the entire body of the head is gold and textured — a sharp contrast that monochromatic replicas lack.
- The first costume: this is the lightest and shortest piece in our selection, the one you give to a child or choose for a first costume.
- Not a weapon: the PU foam with a rigid core does not cut, pierce, or strike. This replica is made for costumes, reenactment, and display.

Did you know?
Short axes are not a modern compromise: Scandinavian excavations have yielded many of them, with heads of ten to fifteen centimeters mounted on handles barely longer than a forearm. These were one-handed axes, worn tucked into the belt, used as much for splitting kindling as for combat. The large two-handed axes, which have defined the image of the Viking warrior, are actually rarer in graves than these modest tools.
To learn more, our anatomy of the Viking sword details how these weapons were forged, and our report on warrior equipment puts each piece into its proper context.

Does this hatchet cut?
No. PU foam with a rigid core, no real cutting edge: it's a costume and decorative replica.
Is it suitable for a child?
It's the shortest and lightest one in this section, with no sharp edges. It's still a costume accessory to be handled under supervision, like any object that imitates a weapon.
Did the Vikings use axes this short?
Yes, and a lot of them. Excavations turn up large numbers of one-handed axes, with a short head and a handle barely longer than the forearm — more common than the big two-handed axes.
What's the difference from the 50 cm models?
The size. This one can be worn on the belt and goes anywhere; the longer models have more presence but become awkward indoors.
