A curved saber set with turquoise, its scabbard and display stand
A dao — the single-edged saber of the Far East — cast in an antique bronze alloy, the handle curved into a bird's head, the scabbard covered in scrolling patterns and set with turquoise cabochons. Delivered with its black display stand and a red silk tassel.

What distinguishes this piece
- Turquoise inlays: six cabochons distributed across the scabbard and the guard. It is the detail that distinguishes this piece from monochrome miniatures.
- A dao, not a jian: a curved, single-edged blade with a thick spine. The jian, the straight double-edged sword, is a different weapon — we offer both.
- Three pieces: saber, scabbard and display stand, plus a keychain ring.
- It is a display item: thirty centimeters of cast alloy, with a blunt point and edges. It is neither a weapon nor a costume piece.

Did you know?
The dao is the Far Eastern soldier's weapon, while the jian is that of the scholar: a proverb says that it takes a hundred days to master the saber, a thousand for the spear, and ten thousand for the straight sword. As for turquoise, it is not an insignificant decorative choice — it has been circulating on the Silk Roads since the first millennium BCE, and is found mounted on objects across the entire continent. It is also through these same routes that oriental silver arrived in Scandinavia: excavations at Birka and Gotland have yielded tens of thousands of Abbasid dirhams. Two worlds that never met directly, but whose objects, meanwhile, traveled.
To learn more, our anatomy of the Viking sword allows you to compare this design with that of a blade actually forged in the North.

What is a dao?
The classic sabre of the Far East: a curved, single-edged blade with a thick spine. It is the soldier's weapon, whereas the jian, a straight double-edged sword, is the scholar's.
Is the stand included?
Yes. The miniature comes with its turquoise-studded scabbard and a black display stand.
Is it a Viking weapon?
No, it belongs to the Far Eastern tradition. We offer it for what it is — even though the Silk Roads did connect the Far East with Scandinavia, through silver more than through weapons.
How big is it?
About 30 cm. It is a piece for a display cabinet or a desk.
