The Tree and the Compass, Drawn Like an Engraving
This Viking sweatshirt works as a negative of the rest of the collection: off-white background, black lines, no color. The Yggdrasil is repeated in a frieze on the body of the garment, a large Vegvísir occupies the center of the chest, and interlacing patterns connect the two motifs down to the cuffs. The overall design reads like a woodcut engraving. Find it in our Viking sweatshirt collection.
For the tree alone, in a very large format, see the Yggdrasil tattoo model.
What Sets This Sweatshirt Apart
On a light background, every printing defect shows. This is the most demanding exercise in the range.
- Light background, sharp lines: the black is applied onto the off-white without smudges or halos, which gives the motif its engraving quality.
- Two symbols, two scales: the tree in a small, repeated pattern, the compass large and unique — the composition has a breath that uniform prints lack.
- Off-white rather than pure white: the slightly grayish background softens the contrast and ages better than an optical white.
- Wearable in spring: one of the only two light models in the collection, where black dominates everywhere else.
In the same light vein but with skulls, the skulls and Yggdrasil model pushes the density further.

Did you know?
The Grímnismál describes three roots for Yggdrasil, but Snorri Sturluson, in the Gylfaginning, does not place them in the same location as the poem from which he draws inspiration: where the ancient text places a root among men, Snorri puts it among the frost giants. This type of discrepancy is frequent with him — he was writing two centuries after Christianization, based on sources he reorganized into a system. The "coherent" Norse mythology that we know is largely his work as an editor, not an ancient state of the belief.

Which print style to choose?
| Print type | What it looks like | When to choose it |
|---|---|---|
| Placed design | The body of the sweatshirt stays plain: the design is limited to the chest, the sleeves and the back. | When you want to wear the garment without the design ruling your day. It is also the only model available in fourteen color and ink combinations. |
| All-over print this product | The fabric is printed before assembly: front, back, sleeves, hood and right up to the seams. | When the garment is meant to be seen. Fifteen different designs, all in polyester, from 2XS to 4XL. |
| All-over print, finer artwork | The same full coverage, but a more detailed drawing and an acrylic, polyester and elastane knit. | When you look at a garment up close before buying it, or if polyester alone feels too stiff. Sizes up to 5XL, and up to 6XL for the zip-up model. |
Choosing your size
The manufacturer provides no size chart for the sweatshirts in this range. We would rather tell you so than publish a measurement chart we would have made up.
The method that never fails: take a sweatshirt you already wear and that fits you well. Lay it flat and measure from one armpit seam to the other. Write this number down: it is your benchmark. You are comparing one garment with another, without going through a theoretical size, and theoretical sizes are precisely what vary from one manufacturer to another.
The cut runs small: narrower in the shoulders and shorter in the body than a European cut of the same size. If you are between two sizes, take the larger one: this is the advice that avoids the most returns.
A word about the letters. Beyond XXL, these labels follow no common standard: a 4XL, 5XL or 6XL has no fixed equivalent, and the same letter does not mean the same thing from one manufacturer to another. Do not trust the letter, trust the centimeter.
How many symbols are on this sweatshirt?
Two main ones: Yggdrasil, repeated as a band around the body, and a large Vegvísir medallion on the chest. The rest is made up of linking knotwork.
Is it pure white or off-white?
It is an off-white, slightly grayish, which softens the contrast with the black lines and avoids the “paper” effect of pure white.
Doesn't a white sweatshirt show dirt easily?
More than a black one does, to be honest. Washing inside out at 30 °C (86 °F) takes care of everyday stains; we advise against the tumble dryer, which sets marks.
Is the design just as dense on the back?
Yes, the back has the same density of line work, with the tree in the center instead of the Vegvísir.
