A Pattern Where Skulls Hide
This Viking hoodie is the most intricate in our selection: tight interlacings from collar to cuffs, Yggdrasil repeated in medallions, and stylized skulls blended into the ornament — you don't see them right away. The front is treated in dark, the back in light, which provides two garments in one. Find it in our Viking hoodies collection.
If you want the same palette without the skulls, the white Yggdrasil and Vegvísir features the same vocabulary, but with a more airy feel.
What Sets This Hoodie Apart
A dense pattern can turn into a blur. Here, it is read in layers.
- Three reading distances: a texture at five meters, medallions at two, skulls at one. Few textile prints manage three scales at once.
- Dark front, light back: the inversion of values between the two sides gives the garment two identities depending on which side you look at it from.
- Integrated, not applied, skulls: they emerge from the crossing of the ribbons instead of being placed on top — this is the Nordic way of treating a figure.
- No empty areas: the sleeves, the hood, and even the hem carry the pattern, with no breaks at the seams.
For skulls treated head-on rather than concealed, see the crossed axes model.

Did you know?
The skull is not an ancient Nordic motif: Scandinavian art of the Viking Age, entirely focused on ribbon animals, almost never represents death in the form of bones. The memento mori with the skull is a Western European Christian invention, popularized from the 15th century onwards. Its presence on today's Viking-inspired clothing comes from metal culture and 1970s tattooing, not from the sagas — an assumed borrowing rather than a historical quotation.

Which print style to choose?
| Print type | What it looks like | When to choose it |
|---|---|---|
| Placed design | The body of the sweatshirt stays plain: the design is limited to the chest, the sleeves and the back. | When you want to wear the garment without the design ruling your day. It is also the only model available in fourteen color and ink combinations. |
| All-over print this product | The fabric is printed before assembly: front, back, sleeves, hood and right up to the seams. | When the garment is meant to be seen. Fifteen different designs, all in polyester, from 2XS to 4XL. |
| All-over print, finer artwork | The same full coverage, but a more detailed drawing and an acrylic, polyester and elastane knit. | When you look at a garment up close before buying it, or if polyester alone feels too stiff. Sizes up to 5XL, and up to 6XL for the zip-up model. |
Choosing your size
The manufacturer provides no size chart for the sweatshirts in this range. We would rather tell you so than publish a measurement chart we would have made up.
The method that never fails: take a sweatshirt you already wear and that fits you well. Lay it flat and measure from one armpit seam to the other. Write this number down: it is your benchmark. You are comparing one garment with another, without going through a theoretical size, and theoretical sizes are precisely what vary from one manufacturer to another.
The cut runs small: narrower in the shoulders and shorter in the body than a European cut of the same size. If you are between two sizes, take the larger one: this is the advice that avoids the most returns.
A word about the letters. Beyond XXL, these labels follow no common standard: a 4XL, 5XL or 6XL has no fixed equivalent, and the same letter does not mean the same thing from one manufacturer to another. Do not trust the letter, trust the centimeter.
Are the skulls very visible?
They are worked into the knotwork pattern, not placed on top of it. You spot them up close: from a distance, the garment reads as a dense decorative pattern.
Are the front and back identical?
No. The front is mostly dark, the back mostly light. It is a garment with two contrasting sides.
Is the design the same as on the white Yggdrasil model?
No. This one is much denser and adds the skulls, which the other does not have. They share the tree and the color palette, nothing more.
Is it suitable for someone who doesn't like macabre designs?
The skulls are stylized and blended into the ornament, with no anatomical realism. They are still there, though: if the motif bothers you, the white Yggdrasil model uses the same palette without them.
