A Red Tribal Design That Takes Over the Shoulder
This tribal print T-shirt concentrates its print on a single shoulder and the sleeve: a large spiral surrounded by sawtooth bands and spearheads, in bright red on a black background. The rest of the garment stays plain, which makes the design all the more striking.
The same design is available in white and in bright green.
What Sets This T-Shirt Apart
An asymmetrical print is judged on a single criterion: the way the design crosses the shoulder seam.
- Shoulder match: the bands continue from chest to sleeve without any offset: that is what separates a true all-over print from a print simply placed on top.
- A single shoulder: the design occupies the right side and leaves the rest plain, so it reads diagonally rather than as a block on the front.
- Polynesian design: spirals, chevrons and spearheads belong to the Polynesian tribal repertoire, not to Norse art — we prefer to make that clear.
- Kids' and adult sizes: from age 4 up to 6XL in the same listing, with the full measurement chart above.
For a print covering the whole garment rather than a single shoulder, see the black and white all-over tribal.
Choosing Your Size
These measurements are those of the garment laid flat, not of your body. The width is measured from one armpit seam to the other; the chest circumference is that width multiplied by two. Allow one to two centimeters of tolerance: these garments are measured by hand.
| Size | Flat width | Chest circumference |
|---|---|---|
| Age 4 (100 cm) | 29 cm | 58 cm |
| Age 5 (110 cm) | 30 cm | 60 cm |
| Age 6 (120 cm) | 32 cm | 64 cm |
| Age 8 (130 cm) | 33 cm | 66 cm |
| Age 10 (140 cm) | 34 cm | 68 cm |
| Age 12 (150 cm) | 35 cm | 70 cm |
| Age 14 (160 cm) | 36 cm | 72 cm |
| XXS | 38 cm | 76 cm |
| XS | 40 cm | 80 cm |
| S | 42 cm | 84 cm |
| M | 44 cm | 88 cm |
| L | 47 cm | 94 cm |
| XL | 50 cm | 100 cm |
| 2XL | 52 cm | 104 cm |
| 3XL | 54 cm | 108 cm |
| 4XL | 56 cm | 112 cm |
| 5XL | 58 cm | 116 cm |
| 6XL | 59 cm | 118 cm |
The foolproof method: take a T-shirt you already own that fits you well. Lay it flat and measure from one armpit seam to the other. Compare that number with the Flat width column: no math needed. You are comparing a garment with a garment, without going through a theoretical size — and it is precisely theoretical sizes that vary from one manufacturer to another.
The cut runs small: narrower in the shoulders and shorter in the body than a European cut in the equivalent size. If you are between two sizes, take the larger one: that is the advice that prevents the most returns.
A word about the letters. These sizes follow their own lettering system, and beyond XXL, French ready-to-wear hardly uses them at all: a 4XL, a 5XL or a 6XL does not correspond to any common French size. Worse, the same letter does not mean the same thing from one manufacturer to another: in this section, an “L” ranges from 94 to 112 cm in chest circumference depending on the model. Don't trust the letter, trust the centimeter.

Did You Know?
The word “tattoo” comes from the Pacific, and its entry into European languages can be dated. In July 1769, in Tahiti, the crew of James Cook's Endeavour recorded in the journal the local term tatau, which refers to the act of marking the skin — the word is thought to be onomatopoeic, imitating the sound of the mallet striking the pigment comb. Joseph Banks and Cook brought it back to England, where it became tattoo, before passing into French. Before that, European languages had no word of their own for it: people spoke of “prickings” or “marks.” The design you wear therefore belongs to the tradition that gave the practice its name.

Is this pattern Viking?
No. It draws on Polynesian tribal motifs: spirals, chevrons and spearheads. Norse art of the Viking Age uses interlaced ribbon-like animals, never repeated geometric bands.
Is the print on one shoulder only?
Yes, on the right side, chest and sleeve. The other side and the back remain plain black, except for the join that runs over the shoulder.
Where does the word “tattoo” come from?
From the Tahitian tatau, recorded by James Cook's crew in 1769 and brought back to England as “tattoo.” Before that, European languages had no word of their own for it.
Does this model come in kids' sizes?
Yes, seven kids' sizes from 4 to 14 years, then eleven adult sizes from XXS to 6XL. The chart above gives the chest measurement for each one.
