The drinking horn, finally table-ready

Vikings drank from horns that couldn't stand upright. No flat bottom, no base: once filled, the horn had to be passed around or emptied. This glass captures the exact curve of the ancient object and adds what it has always lacked—a base. You can finally set it down between sips.

Blown from clear glass, it reveals the color of its contents: a gradient cocktail, an amber ale, or golden mead. Find it among our drinking horns and Viking mugs.

What sets this piece apart

  • A true horn curve: the tip is replicated identically, down to the tapered end that extends from the base. This is not a disguised conical glass.
  • Blown glass, not molded: every piece bears slight irregularities and occasionally a tiny bubble. This is the hallmark of hand-blowing, not a defect.
  • 410 ml, the cocktail size: large enough for a long drink served on ice, slim enough to remain elegant in the hand.
  • Fully transparent: base, stem, and body are one single piece. No seams, no paint.
  • Dishwasher safe: unlike real horns, which require lukewarm hand-washing.

For the original object, made from real animal horn, see our Viking drinking horn in natural yak.

Did you know?

No Scandinavian drinking horn found in excavations has a flat bottom. It is a constraint of the object, not a design choice: a hollowed horn retains its pointed end. In great halls, they were therefore either held or placed on wooden or metal stands designed for that purpose—several of these stands have been unearthed in Scandinavian graves. The horn circulated from hand to hand, and whoever received it could not set it down without emptying it. The ritual of the Nordic toast is largely due to this manufacturing detail.
