Did you know?
The most famous object used in knot magic was found by chance. In 1878, while demolishing an old house in Wellington, Somerset, workers discovered in an attic a knotted rope bristling with rooster feathers, hidden away with some brooms. A local scholar named it the witch's ladder, and the object was added to the Pitt Rivers Museum in Oxford, where it still remains. No one has ever established with certainty what it was used for—but it was enough to give a name, and an image, to an entire family of knotted charms.
To explore further, our Viking Ring section gathers other models, and our Viking jewelry collection covers the rest of our selection.
