A Fish With Fins Spread Like Wings

These flying fish earrings stretch the animal out in mid-ascent: the body is scaled row by row, and the long fins fan out on either side. The piece climbs up the lobe instead of resting on it, giving it a sense of movement rarely seen in a stud. Find this product in our viking earrings collection.

In the same nautical theme, our Kraken tentacle hoops embrace the depths, whereas these play with the surface.

What Sets This Pair Apart

This model is sold individually, which changes how you order it.

  • Ear of your choice: the fish is oriented, with each piece made for one side — or buy the pair for both.
  • Engraved scales: the body is carved row by row, catching the light differently depending on the angle.
  • Openwork fins: the rays are cutout rather than solid, so the piece remains lightweight despite its wingspan.
  • Stainless steel: withstands seawater, pool water, and sweat without tarnishing.

For another winged animal in a stud style, see our swallow in flight studs.

Did you know?

No Viking expedition would have been possible without dried fish. Gutted cod hung in the icy winds of the Lofoten Islands becomes skreið: a slab of protein that stays preserved for years without salt and can be transported in bales. It was both the ship's ration and Norway's first major export. And we now know just how far it traveled: a study published in 2017 extracted DNA from cod bones found in the archaeological layers of Haithabu, the great port of Jutland, and compared it to current populations. As it turns out, these fish eaten on the shores of the Baltic came from the Norwegian Arctic, over two thousand kilometers away. The dried fish trade was already in full swing in the 11th century.
