A sphere held by two wings — and a Nordic tradition closer than it seems
Two blackened wings, feathers engraved one by one, close around a clear glass sphere that catches the light. The piece is made of a dark-finished zinc alloy, mounted on a link chain. It is a piece with a gothic vocabulary, not Nordic, and we state that frankly.

What sets this piece apart
- The sphere changes with the light: clear when backlit, almost grey against dark clothing. It is the only living element of the piece.
- The feathers are engraved, not molded flat: each row is marked, giving depth to a piece of this size.
- It is not Viking jewelry: the membranous wings and the sphere belong to contemporary gothic imagery. We prefer to state this rather than let it be assumed.

Did you know?
The design is modern, but the idea of a crystal sphere worn on the person has a real Nordic history. Women's graves in Birka, Sweden, and several deposits in Gotland have yielded rock crystal balls set in silver, suspended from the belt among keys and tools. Some came from very far away—Central Europe, or even Byzantium—and their function remains debated: magnifying glass, amulet, or mark of rank. What is certain is that a 10th-century Scandinavian woman could wear a transparent sphere set in metal, and that this detail, at least, was not invented by cinema.

Is this a Viking piece of jewelry?
No. The membranous wings and the sphere belong to contemporary gothic imagery. However, silver-mounted crystal balls do exist in the graves of Birka and Gotland.
Is the sphere real crystal?
It is a glass sphere. It catches and diffuses light, but it is not cut rock crystal.
What material is the pendant made of?
Cast zinc alloy with a blackened finish. The feathers are engraved into the metal itself.
Is it suitable for both men and women?
Yes, the piece is unisex. Its size and dark finish make it stand out on a light outfit as well as on black.
