The bird that brings you back to port — a sailor’s motif, not a warrior’s
A swallow with wings spread, engraved feathers and forked tail, cut from 316L steel. Three centimeters in wingspan, mounted on a supple snake chain. A broad, flat silhouette that is instantly recognizable.

What sets this piece apart
- The feathers are engraved row by row: on a three-centimeter flat piece, this relief avoids a cookie-cutter look.
- The snake chain is smooth: its flat, tight links glide without snagging hair or collars.
- It is not a Nordic motif: the swallow belongs to the European maritime tradition. We say this rather than disguising it as one of Odin's ravens.

Did you know?
The swallow is the sailor's bird: in traditional tattooing, one was earned for every five thousand miles traveled, and it was said to bring the soul of a drowned person to heaven — because it always returns to the same nest. The North, however, used birds differently: not as symbols, but as navigation instruments. The Landnámabók tells that Flóki Vilgerðarson brought three ravens on board to find land. The first returned to the boat, the second did as well, the third flew straight ahead — and Flóki followed. He thus reached Iceland and earned his nickname: Hrafna-Flóki, Raven-Flóki.
To explore further, our Viking Necklace section brings together Nordic pendants, and our Viking jewelry contains the rest of the collection.

Is the swallow a Viking symbol?
No. It is a motif from maritime tradition and European tattooing. The North, for its part, used ravens as actual navigation instruments.
What does the swallow mean to sailors?
It marked five thousand nautical miles sailed and promised a return to port, because the swallow always comes back to the same nest.
How big is the pendant?
About 3 cm in wingspan, in 316L stainless steel, flat and engraved.
Is 316L steel suitable for sensitive skin?
Yes. It is the so-called surgical grade: it does not rust, does not tarnish and does not cause reactions.
