A Lizard With a Spiraling Tail
This lizard ear cuff makes the animal climb up your cartilage: the paws grip the edge, the body stretches out, and the long tail curls into a spiral under the ear. Scales are engraved along the entire length, from the snout to the tip. Find this product in our Viking earrings collection.
For a legless reptile treated in the same way, the winged snake ear cuff spans the entire ear.
What Sets This Piece Apart
This model is sold individually: each piece is oriented for a specific ear.
- Ear of your choice: left or right — the lizard climbs in one direction and cannot be reversed.
- Spiraling tail: the coil acts as a counterweight and stabilizes the piece on the cartilage.
- Engraved scales: carved into the entire body, they prevent the silhouette from looking like a simple curved wire.
- Stainless steel: the thin paws hold their shape and will not rust.
For an animal coiled on itself rather than climbing, the two snake ear cuff remains compact.

Did you know?
Only one reptile in the world crosses the Arctic Circle, and it is a lizard. The viviparous lizard, Zootoca vivipara, lives as far north as Scandinavia and Siberia, much further than any other species. It achieves this thanks to an adaptation announced by its name: instead of laying eggs that would need a warmth the Nordic soil never provides, the female keeps the embryos inside her and gives birth to already formed young. She therefore carries her brood into the sun while moving. This is the only lizard the Vikings could have encountered in Norway, and it is still there today.

Why is there no “pair” option?
This model is only sold singly, for the left or the right ear. If you want two, order one piece for each side: they complement each other, with the lizard climbing forward on each ear.
Does the spiral tail get in the way?
No, it tucks under the edge of the cartilage and acts as a counterweight. It is what keeps the piece from tipping forward.
Are there lizards in Scandinavia?
Just one, but a remarkable one: the viviparous lizard, the northernmost reptile in the world. It ranges beyond the Arctic Circle and gives birth to live young rather than laying eggs, because the ground is not warm enough.
Do I need a piercing?
No, none at all. The piece pinches onto the edge of the cartilage and is held by the pressure of the metal.
