A Serpent Almost Coiled Upon Itself
This serpent ear cuff wraps the reptile into an almost complete ring: the head and tail face each other without touching, and scales are engraved along the entire length of the body. It is the compact version of the design, one that fits on the cartilage without overwhelming the ear. Find this product in our Viking earrings collection.
For the long version of the serpent that travels the entire ear, the winged serpent cuff goes from the lobe to the helix.
What Sets This Piece Apart
Sold individually, it is chosen side by side.
- Ear of your choice: left, right, or the pair — the coiling is directional.
- Almost closed ring: the gap between the head and tail serves as an opening to slide the piece onto the cartilage.
- Scales along the entire length: engraved to the tip of the tail, including on the part hidden against the ear.
- Stainless steel: the fine wire keeps its shape and does not deform upon removal.
For two serpents knotted together on a classic hoop, see our intertwined serpent hoops.

Did you know?
On the Ramsund carving, etched in Sweden around 1030, the serpent does not illustrate the story: it is the medium for the writing. The entire runic inscription runs inside the body of the dragon Fáfnir, which loops across the rock. And around this band, sculpted in images, the legend of Sigurd unfolds: the hero lurking in a pit who pierces the dragon from below, then sits roasting the heart, bringing his burnt thumb to his mouth — a gesture that, in the story, suddenly grants him understanding of the language of the birds, who warn him of a betrayal. The blacksmith Regin lies decapitated beside his tools. It is graphic storytelling ahead of its time, carved into granite, where text and monster are one.

Why do I have to choose an ear?
The serpent's coil has a direction: the head faces toward the front of the face. Worn on the wrong side, the piece reads backwards. Choose your side, or the “pair” option.
Is the ring open enough to slide on?
The gap between the head and the tail is precisely what serves as the opening. If it is too tight for your cartilage, spread the two ends very slightly apart between two fingers.
Is the serpent a Viking motif?
It is the quintessential Norse motif. On the Ramsund stone in Sweden, the runic inscription is even carved inside the body of the dragon Fáfnir: the serpent serves as the surface for the writing itself.
Is it very noticeable?
Less than the long serpent ear cuff: this one stays compact on the cartilage. It is the one to choose if you want the motif without the showiness.
