A Snake That Climbs From the Lobe to the Top of the Ear
This snake ear cuff is the longest in our range: its scaled body starts at the bottom of the ear, follows the entire edge of the cartilage, and finishes with a fan-shaped crest at the top. Sold individually, it is designed to be seen. Find this product in our Viking earrings collection.
For a shorter snake that loops back on itself, the two-snake ear cuff remains on the cartilage.
What Sets This Piece Apart
A cuff that follows the entire ear must fit snugly without ever pinching.
- Ear of your choice: the piece is oriented — left, right, or the pair for both sides.
- Engraved scales: the body is textured along its entire length, preventing it from looking like a simple bent wire.
- Fan-shaped crest: the fan at the top gives the snake the look of a creature rather than an ordinary animal.
- Stainless steel: withstands humidity and perspiration without leaving a trace.
The same animal is also available as classic hoops: our Jörmungandr hoops.

Did you know?
The snake is the quintessential Nordic decorative motif, to the point that archaeologists date artifacts based on the way it is drawn. The sequence of styles — Borre, Jelling, Mammen, Ringerike, then Urnes — describes an evolution from the thick, stocky animal to the thread-like ribbon. The last in the series is the most radical: the Urnes style, in use between approximately 1050 and 1125, reduces everything to snakes stretched out like shoelaces, tied in elegant loops where it is difficult to distinguish the head from the body. It owes its name to the carved portal of the Urnes Stave Church in Norway, now a World Heritage site. A thousand years later, it is still the graphic vocabulary that we immediately recognize as "Viking."

Why do you sell it individually?
Because the serpent faces one way and follows the contour of a specific ear. A piece designed for the left ear does not fit the right one. Choose your side, or the “pair” option.
Do I need a piercing to wear it?
No, none at all. It slides onto the rim of the ear and stays in place through the pressure of the metal, from the earlobe up to the top of the cartilage.
Is it very noticeable?
Yes, it is the most eye-catching piece in the range: it covers the entire rim of the ear. With long hair it shows now and then; with short hair it is immediately visible.
Is the serpent a Viking motif?
Absolutely, and in fact it is the most characteristic one. Archaeologists date Norse objects by the way the serpent is drawn on them — the Urnes style, made entirely of interlaced ribbons, is its culmination.
