A Fox That Hugs the Edge of the Ear
This fox ear cuff follows the contour of the cartilage: the pointed snout sits at the top of the curve, while the bushy tail descends to close the ring. The animal is not placed on a support — it is the support, which is what makes the piece clear even from a distance. Find this product in our Viking earrings collection.
The same principle applies to a reptile: the lizard cuff wraps its tail in the same way.
What Distinguishes This Piece
This cuff is sold individually, which completely changes how you choose it.
- Ear of your choice: left, right, or both — the animal is oriented, so each piece is made for a specific side.
- No piercing: the open ring clips onto the cartilage and can be removed in a second.
- Engraved fur: the hair is carved strand by strand on the tail, where many models simply feature a smooth surface.
- Stainless steel: does not tarnish, does not rust, and can be worn in the shower without worry.
For a more massive animal in the same spot, see the lion head cuff.

Did you know?
The fox does not have a role in Norse mythology — it is the wolves, with Fenrir at the head, who occupy that space. However, it played a considerable economic role. The Norse colonies in Greenland and Iceland lived in part from the export of Arctic furs, and polar fox skin, along with walrus ivory, was among the goods that traveled up to the markets of Europe. The Konungs skuggsjá, the 13th-century Norwegian treatise already cited for its sea monsters, describes this trade precisely: in Greenland, nothing is bought that is not paid for in skins, rope, or walrus tusks. The fox was not a symbol; it was currency.

Why do I have to choose an ear?
Because the fox faces one way: its muzzle points toward the front of the face. A piece designed for the right ear and worn on the left will have its head turned backward. If you want both ears, choose the “pair” option.
What if I don't know which side to choose?
Pick the side people see most often: if you are usually photographed or seated in a right three-quarter view, take the right ear. Otherwise, the pair settles the question.
Is the fox a Viking animal?
It lives in Scandinavia but plays no role in the mythology. The canine that matters in the sagas is the wolf. We would rather be clear about it: this model is a beautiful animal-themed piece of jewelry, not a Norse symbol.
Could the cuff fall off?
It stays in place through the pressure of the ring on the cartilage. Check the fit on the first day: if it moves when you shake your head, close the opening very slightly between two fingers.
